Commonplace book, [ca. 1638-1645].

Poems on a number of subjects, entered in several hands. The heavily-represented poets are William Strode (23 pieces), Richard Corbet (7), and John Donne (6). Also present is a version of William Basse's "Epitaph on Shakespeare." Most of the later poems are written by Royalists attacking the Parliamentary party. The volume consists of 70 leaves, one leaf between 35 and 36 lacking; the first part from the beginning to leaf 59 with the exception of two poems is in one hand and was written about 1638; the second is in a later hand, about 1645, with one poem at the end added by a third person.
